Texas Hold’em poker is a very popular
card game. It is played using your typical 52
cards deck of 4 suits and 13 cards per suit.
It is played all around the globe in many countries
in private homes, in casinos and in private members
clubs is also played online in probably every
country on earth.
This game requires at least 2 players and can
include a maximum of 11 players.
The normal ranking of poker hands apply to Texas
Hold'em where for instance a straight is beaten
by a flush and four of a kind beats a house.
The average Texas hold'em game can be divided
into 5 different categories.
1) The Preflop: Each player is dealt 1 card by
the dealer who is identified by the position of
a button.
Then a 2nd card is dealt to each player around
the table, both cards being dealt facing down.
The 1st round of bets now take place.
2) The Flop: this is where the dealer deals 3
cards and place them face up in the center of
the table.
This is known as the flop and they are available
to be used by each player as they see fit hence
they are known as community cards. The 2nd round
of bets are now taken.
3) The Turn: A 4th card is dealt facing up by
the dealer next to the flop. This card is also
known as the "turn" card or the "4th
street". The 3rd round of bets now takes
place.
4) The River: Finally the 5th and last card is
now dealt next to the turn card making it 5 community
cards. This card is also called the "river"
or "5th street". The last round of bets
now takes place.
5) The Showdown: By this time some players might
have folded their hands and so cannot win.
The players still in the game then show their
hands starting with the player who bet first.
The best hand of 5 from the 5 community cards
and the 2 cards in each players is declared the
winner of the pot.
A hand can be made using just 1 card from the
2 cards a player has and 4 of the community cards.
Likewise the best hand of 5 on the table could
be the 5 community cards. In a case like this
then all remaining players in the game splits
the pot evenly.
Apart from these 5 categories, the below describes
the hand rankings from the highest to the lowest
in online Texas hold'em poker:
- Straight flush: this is when you have 5 same
suit cards in consecutive order.
- 4 of a kind: this is when you have 4 exact value
cards and a 5th card of any other value.
- Full house: 3 same value cards plus 2 exact
value cards but different value from the 3.
- Flush: having 5 same suit cards but not in consecutive
order.
- Straight: 5 consecutive cards but with at least
2 suits represented.
- 3 of a kind: having 3 exact value cards plus
2 other cards not the same value as those 3 or
of each other.
- 2 pairs: having 2 sets of 2 exact value cards
plus a 5th card of different value of the other
4.
- Pair: having 2 exact value cards plus 3 other
cards not of the same value as the pair or with
each other.
- High: having 5 cards all of different values
and not in consective order and at least 2 suits
represented.
When there are poker hands with the same ranking
value then the height of the individual cards
will determine the winner. In the case of a house
though it's the hand having the higher 3 card
value that wins. |
