Omaha
Hold'em Poker is a very exciting poker
game that is gaining in poularity amongst online
poker players.
In this game each player is dealt by the dealer
4 cards facing down and there are 5 community
cards available to all the players to make the
best possible poker hand.
Players must use 2 cards from their 4 hole cards
and 3 cards from the community cards.
Here is the step by step process.
* 4 cards facing down are dealt to each player
* 1st round of betting occurs
* 3 community dealt facing up.
* 2nd round of betting occurs
* The 4th community card or "turn" card
is dealt
* 3rd round of betting occurs
* The 5th community card or "river"
card is dealt
* 4th final round of betting occurs
* Players reveal their hands - the showdown!
The dealer is identified by a round button also
called a puck which is placed in front of him.
After each game this button is moved to the player
immediately to the left and that player becomes
the dealer.
Dealing always starts with the player to the immediate
left of the dealer receiving the first card.
(1) However before the dealer deals the 1st card
players are required to post blinds. The small
blind is posted by the 1st player sitting on the
left side of the the small blind might
be $1. In this case the next player sitting on
the left of the player posting the small blind
will post the big blind which is always double
the small blind, hence in this example $2.
After the cards are dealt betting starts with
the next player siting on the left side of the
player posting the $2 big blind. He can either
fold his cards, match the big blind bet ($2)
or raise this bet. And so on clockwise until
the bet returns to the player with the big blind.
(2) The next step is the dealer deals 3 community
cards, called the flop in the middle of the
playing the first person required to act
is the 1st player sitting on the left side of
the dealer. He can eiter bet, fold or then
the betting moves to the next player to his
left and so on until it returns to the dealer.
(3) Next we have the 4th community card or turn
card being dealt and betting follows the same
pattern as above.
(4) Next we have the last community card or
river card being dealt and once again betting
follows the same pattern as before.
(5) Players left in the game then show their
hands and the best hand wins the pot,
General Omaha Poker Strategy:
A nut hand is usually required to win a pot
in Omaha Hold'em poker. Very rare would a triple
or double pair win this game.
A nut hand is like a pure straight or straight
flush or a house or quads. This is because of
the number of cards to choose from 4 in your
hand and 5 community having 4 hole cards
is like having 6 Texas Hold'em hands before
the flop. So the combinations that can be created
when you see the community cards are incredible
and so you should always try to create nut hands
in this game, anything less and you are in big
trouble.
For this reason Omaha poker games tend to have
huge pots because inexperienced players seeing
a straight with the flop thinks they have a
great hand and bet heavily only to be beaten
by a house or hidden quads which are frequently
made.
