If
you want to be successful in this game, you need
to remember the following online Texas
hold'em poker tips:
1. This may not sound like a tip, but I suggest
as time goes by read as much as you can on poker.
There are several poker books available by past
WSOP winners. Take your time and start playing
but do read about the strategies of the many winners
of poker, they are all different and some will
work for you whilst others won't.
2. If you don't have patience my friend stay as
far away from this game as possible, serious!
Every poker expert will tell you that you must
fold in a 10 seater game at least 80% to 90% of
the hands you are dealt.
You cannot allow yourself to be tempted to play
all hands or to be chasing ambulances.
Only a bad player will play each and every set
of cards he is dealt with. Don't go running after
elusive straights and flushes. Wait until you
can see a strong hand and then bet.
Forget those who are winning on the table, focus
on the cards you are dealt with.
Especially when playing tournaments this is even
more important, treat it as if you are running
a marathon.
3. Your positioning on the table when it is your
turn to bet must influence your decision. You
want to always be in a position of strength when
it's your turm to bet and this is usually when
you are the last or one of the later players to
bet. You have to be cautious when betting early.
4. You have go to learn the odds of the different
hands.
5. Don't get cocky and try fancy moves, you have
to build the right table reputation from early
on.
6. Get to know and try to read your opponents
style of play and find the weak links.
7. When playing online it's hard to tell if you
are playing against a man or woman as players
can hide their identity. But men have been known
to play less hard against women players so do
keep that in mind.
8. The key to winning tournaments is not in knocking
players out the tournament yourself but allow
others to do this as well. The more they do this
the better your chances of reaching "in the
money" and then you can assert yourself some
more.
9. You need to build a bankroll in order to win,
that's obvious and to do this you will need to
take risks. Do it early on when you can afford
it and the blinds are small. If you wait until
later in the game then you may taking a huge chunk
out of your money pile.
10. As a tournament progresses and players get
knocked out you will be moved from table to table,
be sure to first observe the table before playing
so sit out a few hands to start with and learn
a few of the players styles.
11. Be very wary of traps which can make or break
you in a tournament like for instance when a player
holding a monster is playing possum and you bet
hard using a big chunk of your bankroll although
you have rubbish. If you need more info, bet smal
to test if he will rasie you.
12. It's no problem going allin just don't do
it on a bluff or chasing a draw or a flush. Be
sure you have the best hand on the table.
You will almost certainly have to go allin at
some point during a tournament. Get others chasing
you when you have the best hand or force them
to be extremely lucky to beat you.
13. Whilst exercising patience waiting for
a monster hand try to steal as many blinds as
you can, you would be amazed at how quickly
you can build a bank doing when you are
in late position this is the best time to throw
a bet in an attempt to steal the blind.
