Situated
on the Pacific coast, sandwiched between California
and Washington State, Oregon is also bordered
by Idaho in the east.
Known for the diversity of its landscape, the
majority of Oregon’s three and three quarter
million population is situated in the region
known as the Willamette Valley between the Oregon
Coast and Cascade mountain ranges.
The valley stretches from the city of Eugene,
passes through Salem and ends at Portland, Oregon’s
three largest cities in descending order.
The Willamette Valley has been blessed with
possibly the most fertile soil in all of the
United States, and along with a moderate climate,
and plenty of annual rainfall, has allowed the
area to become one of the principal fruit growing
areas in the entire continent, and from where
many of the Oregon people earn their income.
As you would expect from a West Coast state,
gambling in all of its forms is legal in Oregon,
with 15 casinos spread out equally between the
towns and cities of the state.
Both table games and slots are available at
all of these venues that are open around the
clock and seven days a week for the pleasure
and convenience of the local gamblers, or for
those who have come to visit from out of state.
A major tourist attraction in Oregon is their
wine industry. There are more than three hundred
wineries scattered throughout the state, most
of them with their own visitors and tasting
center.
You can spend a pleasant and mellow day touring
these centers, where a warm welcome awaits you
at every point. At the end of the day, you will
return home sufficiently wiser about the art
of wine making as well as the strength and potency
of the various wines!
As well as wineries there are dozens of other
attractions for visitors to the state, One of
the most breathtaking is a scenic tram ride
to the top of Mount Howard to take in the breathtaking
vista of the valley and the Pacific Ocean below.
All of the casinos in Oregon are operated by
Native Americans usually in and around their
reservations. By far the largest casino and
resort is the Spirit Mountain Casino. This casino
has something for everyone, with more than 1,500
slot machines, where bets range for one penny
to one hundred dollars.
Blackjack is big in the Spirit Mountain Casino,
with twenty eight tables constantly in action,
if you are not faint hearted and are looking
for some heavy betting action, you can take
your seat at the thousand dollar table for example.
Craps can also be played at the Spirit Mountain
and some of the odds that you will find at the
tables there are as generous as in all of the
US. Other table games available are the
ever popular roulette, three card poker, pai
gow and let it ride.
Texas hold’em poker is played head to
head in their luxurious poker rooms, and the
casino regularly arranges tournaments as well
as occasionally hosting WSOP live televised
tournaments, with some of the leading tour professionals
taking part.
For those who want to enjoy a good meal before,
after or during a session of gambling, the Sprit
Mountain offers a wide variety to suit all tastes
and budgets.
The high standards to be found at the
casinos in Oregon show that the native Indian
operators are well aware of the fierce
competition from neighboring states of Nevada
and California and are pulling out all the stops
to provide the highest standards of value for
money available.
