Here
are some tips from experienced poker players to
help you improve your poker playing skills. These
tips are intended for players who have a basic
understanding of the game, but not much experience.
1. Make sure you play against people you have
a chance against. Don’t try entering a
tournament until you are experienced. Play against
others who have around the same level of skill
as you do.
2. Don’t play if you don’t have
enough money. You need at least 50 times the
table limit.
3. Don’t play every hand. Expert poker
players usually pay about 20 to 30% of the hands
they are dealt.
4. Pay attention to how your opponents act.
You can get a pretty good idea of what kind
of hand they have if you pay attention to how
much they bet on each hand and how they behave.
5. If you wouldn’t raise a hand, then
you probably shouldn’t call either. Not
every hand is worth playing.
6. Bluff only sparingly. You can lose a lot
of money doing it too much.
7. Try to keep the other players guessing. Go
out of your way to be a little unpredictable.
It will be too easy for the other players to
beat you if they can guess what sort of hand
you have based on your actions or bets.
8. Make sure you know how to use your position
to your advantage.
9. Practice playing online first before you
go to the casino.
10. Think about what the best possible hand
would be based on the cards on the table, and
weigh the odds that someone may have that hand.
11. Push for a raise if the pot is big enough
and you think you have the best hand. It’s
best not to get too greedy.
12. Don’t play poker if you’re
feeling tired, angry or sad. Your mood will
affect your playing in a negative way. Besides,
it’s supposed to be fun.
13. Read some books and articles about poker
strategies and try them out. Discover which
strategies work the best for you.
