Situated
in the Mid West region of the United States
of America, Ohio is regarded as part of the
great lakes region and an unofficial crossroads
from the East Cost to the mid center of that
vast continent.
Summers in Ohio are known to be both hot and
humid throughout the State, with coolish winters.
For the tourist as well as the business visitor,
Ohio has much to offer. Apart form its situation
on the shores of the Lake Erie, the state is
a veritable hot bed of natural parks, man made
amusement parks as well as museums and art galleries
catering to every taste.
Ohio rightly prides itself on its transport
infrastructure, regarded as being the eighth
best developed in all the country.
A wealthy and bustling state, Ohio is home to
eleven and a half million, who earn their keep
principally in the manufacturing industry.
The population is fairly evenly spread out throughout
the state, and its major nine cities, the most
well known being Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati.
For lovers of movies featuring gambling, the
Ohio city of Cincinnati was the setting for
one of the classic gambling movies of all time.
The movie” the Cincinnati Kid” starred
two late and great actors, Edward G. Robertson
and Steve McQueen.
Anyone who understands gambling and the drama
behind it, will never forget that legendary
(but fictional) moment when Quincy (Edward .G)
wiped out the kid, played by McQueen by making
a Royal Flush on the last turn of the card.
Unfortunately, at least up till this point in
time, the only form of table gambling that can
be either watched or played is fictional. Ohio’s
laws do not allow any form of casino gambling,
and the only live gambling entertainment available
to Ohio residents is to visit one of the seven
race tracks spread around the state.
However, things look like they are about to
change in Ohio as far as gambling is concerned.
State senators, always realists, have come to
the long overdue conclusion that people who
like to gamble will always find a way, be they
local residents or visitors to the state.
The plan to allow the construction of three
casinos in the state, as well as allowing the
placing of slot machines at all the racetracks
in the state, looks set to receive approval
and open the way for legalized gambling in Ohio.
As they so rightly claim, this move will keep
the money in the state, a large percentage being
allocated for educational causes. This is money
that is currently beng spent in the casinos
of Michigan or Ontario in Canada.
Hopefully all will go well with the legislation
and the forward thinking state will allow its
residents to enjoy playing in the modern and
sumptuous casinos of their home state.
