Although steeped in history and tradition, the
state of Mississippi had been a long term sufferer
from an underachieving economy, however the
state’s brave and forward thinking legislators
changed all that.
Their bold move to legalize gambling in the
state has changed all that, and considerable
income has been brought to the state as a result
of its location, proximity to the main road,
air and rail infrastructure, its temperate climate
and the friendly and welcoming nature of its
population.
The casino industry has created jobs for tens
of thousands of Biloxins. They take these jobs
very seriously and are not slow in showing their
appreciation.

and the Casinos that had not long been established
there suffered a devastating blow when Hurricane
Katrina struck.
Thirty foot high waves battered the shore lines
and everything that stood in their way was either
severely damaged if not destroyed completely.
Thankfully no loss of life was reported but
the damage to property as well as to morale
was immense. However, as the saying goes, good
can come out of bad sometimes, and the casino
industry in Biloxi is rapidly rebuilding itself,
and for the better.
Gambling in Biloxi is now taking place in many
of the casinos which have been extensively renovated,
The Harrah casino group, always forward thinking
are investing big in Biloxi. Two hotel casinos
carrying their banner will be opening there
in the very near future.

South, Jefferson Davis.
Situated on the plantation where Davis retired
to, the huge site contains a massive museum
of the Civil War including a tomb of the unknown
confederate soldier, amongst other mementos
of that era.
For those who like aquatic sightseeing then
a trip to Ship Island is also worth checking
out. Situated in the Gulf of Mexico, excursion
boats leave daily from Biloxi or from nearby
Gulfport for an enjoyable and refreshing trip,
and some sea air.
Biloxi in particular and Mississippi in general
have recovered really well from the tremendous
setback that Hurricane Katrina caused, The indomitable
spirit of the people and the willingness of
