Roulette
is a French word that means small wheel. It is
also the name of a popular American casino gambling
game. In roulette, you place bets on which number
will come up when the roulette wheel is spun.
In the American version of the roulette game,
there are 38 holes around the edge of the wheel.
The holes are numbered from 1 to 36, and there
is also a 0 and 00. You can bet on any of the
numbers, and the payout if you win is 35 to
1. That means that if you place one chip on
the number 16, and 16 is the winning number,
you will win 35 chips.
Many strategies for betting in roulette involve
choosing some favorite numbers and sticking
with them. Most experienced players play the
same ‘lucky numbers’ over and over
again. The usual advice is to watch and keep
track of which numbers come up most frequently.
However, past performance is no guarantee of
what will happen in the future. The roulette
wheel is governed purely by chance.
The numbers are divided into two colors: black
and red. If you bet on a color, the payout is
1:1. The numbers can also be divided into thirds,
since there are 36 numbers. They are often referred
to as the first twelve, second twelve and third
twelve. The payout for a bet on one of these
is 2:1. You can also bet on a combination of
numbers. If you do this, then you will win if
any of your numbers come up. The payout is 17:1
if you bid on two numbers, 11:1 for three numbers
and 8:1 for four numbers. |
