widely as the lone star state,Texas is
certainly among the largest in the United States,
sitting on a land mass of more than a quarter
of a million square miles in the South West
of the continent.
Boasting the second largest population of all
the United States, behind California, Texas
is home to almost 24,000,000. The metropolitan
regions of Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth make
up half of that.
If Texas was a country in its own right, it
would be a pretty wealthy one. The annual gross
product of Texas is over one trillion dollars.
Income in the lone star state is derived from
oil & gas industry and agriculture.
What has caused the dynamic growth in population
growth in Texas over the last few decades is
a combination of many factors. Jobs are available
in plenty; housing is relatively inexpensive
especially when compared to the other major
population centers and low taxation.
Add a pleasant all year round climate and you
can understand why the people continue to flock
to make their home in Texas.
An interesting fact is that Texas is the only
state that has three of its cities, San Antonio,
Dallas and Houston with more than one million
Even more interesting among all that is that
Texas has only one land bound casino. And its
future has not been looking too secure recently.
The casino is based in the Kickapoo Indian Reservation
and state legislators look set in being successful
in their drive to have the Casino declared illegal
and closed down.
There are some river boat casinos that continue
to operate, but they hardly succeed in quenching
the thirst of Texans who love to gamble. And
there are plenty of them! It is indeed hard
to believe that the state that has given its
name to probably the most popular table game
of all time, Texas hold’em has no legal
venue to see the game played in public.
All that is available for Texans who want to
gamble at a live venue is horse racing, which
takes place at ten different race tracks across
the state. For Texans who need to feel the touch
of the green baize or the sound of the bells
ringing in the slots arcade, the only option
is to travel. And that they do to their neighboring
states of Oklahoma, New Mexico and Louisiana.
This would appear to be the only option available
to Texans until the state of Texas changes their
viewpoint on legalizing Casino Gambling. For
their sake we hope it will happen soon. Until
then there is always online gambling.
